The North Carolina Tar Heels have consistently produced one of the best rosters in college basketball, but this season, Hubert Davis’ squad had trouble clicking.
UNC played a guard-heavy scheme with former highly touted stars such as Elliot Cadeau, Ian Jackson, Seth Trimble and RJ Davis.
While Trimble and Davis established themselves as key starters, Jackson, who was playing in his freshman season with the Tar Heels, struggled to find a consistent role.
After his freshman season at North Carolina, Jackson has decided to cut his time short with the Tar Heels and enter the transfer portal, per On3.
Jackson didn’t necessarily struggle in terms of the stat sheet. He recorded a quality line with 11.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game as a freshman.
But, it was clear that Davis’ scheme didn’t fit Jackson’s drive-first mentality, leaving him sidelined for key matchups, like UNC’s loss to Ole Miss in the NCAA Tournament.
Jackson finished that matchup with one point, two turnovers and two personal fouls in 10 minutes.
Davis and hill staff will now have to replace the former five-star prospect. Jackson was listed as the No. 4 shooting guard and No. 8 overall player in the class of 2024, per 247sports.
