North Carolina’s 2025-26 basketball roster will look a lot different. After three players have already entered the transfer portal, another Tar Heel decided to enter his name after just one season with the program.
On Friday, guard Cade Tyson entered the transfer portal and will be looking for a new home. He committed to North Carolina a year ago after spending two seasons at Belmont. Tyson was considered one of the top shooters in the portal last off-season but never got going for the Tar Heels.
He appeared in 31 games last season and didn’t make a single start. He averaged just 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.3 percent. He averaged just 7.9 minutes per game and as the season went on, his role diminished.
NEW: North Carolina forward Cade Tyson has entered the NCAA transfer portal, @PeteNakos_ reports.

Tyson never really got going for the Tar Heels in his lone season as they were expecting a sharpshooter to come off the bench and provide some scoring. With some needs on the wing, some thought Tyson would stay and give it another shot.
However, it does appear to make sense for both sides to move on. UNC has already added Jonathan Powell on the wing as well as guard Kyan Evans.
