The 247Sports scouting team unveiled its final rankings for the Class of 2025 on Wednesday. North Carolina’s three-man class of Caleb Wilson, Derek Dixon, and Isaiah Denis each fluctuated in the updated rankings, finalizing UNC’s class at No. 7 in the Team Rankings.
We reached out to national basketball director Eric Bossi for his scouting expertise on why each of the three incoming Tar Heels landed where they did in the rankings, and what fans can expect from the group as true freshmen during the 2025-26 college basketball season.
Wilson, a five-star power forward out of Atlanta (Ga.) Holy Innocents Episcopal School, jumped one spot as power forward Koa Peat (previously No. 8) dropped three spots down the rankings.Â
Wilson averaged 21.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.5 blocks and 2.1 steals per game as a senior this past season, leading the Golden Bears to a 27-4 record and their first-ever state title. He’s the lone McDonald’s All-American in UNC’s 2025 class and the fifth-highest-rated prospect to sign with UNC in the modern recruiting era (since 2000).
“Ultimately, Wilson earned the slightest of upgrades during our final rankings, moving up one spot,” Bossi told Inside Carolina. “Now, moving up a spot inside the top 10 is probably equivalent to moving up 10 spots in the top 100, so it’s notable.
While we still have some questions about how well Wilson is equipped to deal with the physicality of college hoops, he’s such an elite mover and athlete that it’s hard to bet against him.
While his offense has steadily gotten better and better, it’s his defensive versatility that really jumps out and is a huge part of why we like him so much.
Expect for him to be a switchable defender early who scores in transition and off of the offensive glass. As he gets settled in and adjusts, we would expect to see him show a bit more of a well-rounded game on the offensive end.”
