Hubert Davis and the North Carolina men’s basketball team is looking to rebound from an otherwise pitiful season last year, barely making the NCAA Tournament.

They began to turn things around this offseason with one of the best transfer portal classes in the nation, despite losing a handful of key players from the team’s 2024/2025 rotation.

They have done everything they can to address the serious frontcourt issue the team dealt with throughout last season. However, the backcourt was also dismantled in the process. Starting guards Elliot Cadeau and RJ Davis are gone, as are the team’s best rising stars in Ian Jackson and Drake Powell, leaving serious holes that still need to be filled.

The main question everyone is still looking for an answer to is, “Who will run the point?”

Currently, those options include defensive specialist Seth Trimble, combo guards Kyan Evans and Derek Dixon, and shooting guards Jonathan Powell, Isaiah Denis, and Jaydon Young.

However, though the transfer portal news has slowed down, another huge name just entered the portal that could be a major shift for the Tar Heels’ backcourt if he is pursued — former Arkansas guard Boogie Fland.

Fland was brought into Arkansas last season by John Calipari and averaged 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game — the perfect point guard line. After his freshman season, Fland declared for the NBA Draft and left Arkansas. With an announcement on Tuesday, Fland has withdrawn from the draft selection process and entered the transfer portal.

He still has the option to return to Arkansas, but he is definitely a player that Coach Davis and his camp should contact immediately. He would be an automatic starter and an upgrade to former point guard Elliot Cadeau.
