It wasn’t long ago that the North Carolina basketball team had shown interest and contacted Italian superstar Dame Sarr. A playmaker for FC Barcelona too, Sarr has several teams chasing his signature, but unfortunately it looks like the Tar Heels are out of the race.

Earlier this week, a report surfaced stating that Kansas was on the verge of landing him following a recent official visit. However, Duke has apparently taken its recruiting efforts into overdrive, with Sarr now predicted to sign with UNC’s hated rival. It goes without saying, but Tar Heels fans everywhere would hate to see this go down:

Duke is now the favorite to sign 5-star Italian SG Dame Sarr
On Thursday, three new 247Sports Crystal Ball picks arrived in favor of the Blue Devils. Typically when that happens, some good news is on the way for a program. In this case, however, it would surely be bad news for Hubert Davis and UNC.

With that said, the priority right now for the Heels isn’t guard help. Nope, Davis has been prioritizing a wing to help improve his 2025-26 roster. While North Carolina has swung and missed on several different targets, of course including Andrej Stojakovic, the fact of the matter is that some other options are still available.

On top of that, there are now countless eyes on Florida State standout Jamir Watkins. The sharpshooter is currently testing the NBA Draft waters, but with him projected to be a second-round pick, the door is certainly open for him to return to the college game for one more season.

Should that be the case, the expectation is that Davis and Co. will work to see if Watkins would want to trade his FSU jersey for a Tar Heel blue one. Things are up in the air there, so who knows how things will go down. What we do know is that Sarr won’t be Chapel Hill-bound from overseas, but it’s now looking likely he’ll be moving not too far away to Durham.
