The North Carolina Tar Heels are still working through their 2025-26 roster as an important offseason is officially underway. North Carolina will have to replace production from RJ Davis and Jae’Lyn Withers who are out of eligibility as well as Elliot Cadeau, Ian Jackson and Jalen Washington, all who entered the transfer portal.
The good news is that they do bring in a three-man recruiting class and already have three commitments in the transfer portal.
But a familiar name could draw their interest — again.
On Thursday, four-star guard Acaden Lewis decommitted from Kentucky, the program he’s been committed to since November. Lewis told ESPN’s Jonathan Givony that it was an incredibly difficult decision and is doing what is best for his future.
NEWS: Top-25 recruit Acaden Lewis has decommitted from Kentucky, he told ESPN.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but I have to do what’s best for my future,” Lewis said. “Thank you to Coach Pope and the whole Kentucky staff for all they’ve done for me so far.”
Prior to committing to Kentucky, Lewis drew interest from several top programs including UNC. He took a few visits to Chapel Hill and had the Tar Heels on his final list before his commitment. He also had Duke and UConn on that final list as well.
UNC does need another guard for the future and could add to their three-man class that features a top 10 player in Caleb Wilson.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Lewis is ranked No. 35 nationally, the No. 1 point guard and No. 1 player in D.C. per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
