The 2025 offseason will be a very important one for the North Carolina Tar Heels. They need to address key questions to get the program back on track. This offseason, the team will be very active in the transfer portal and next year’s roster will look quite a bit different.
With the transfer portal already open following the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, numerous players are entering and seeking new homes. One of those players should draw the attention of North Carolina.
Virginia guard Isaac McKneely entered his name into the transfer portal on Monday, and he could be the solution to a big problem North Carolina has.
McKneely spent the past three seasons at Virginia and he’s coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 14.7 points per game and shot 42% from the 3-point line. And 3-point shooting was a big disappointment for the Tar Heels in their recently completed season. The Tar Heels shot 35.6% from the 3-point line as a team last season, ranking 80th.
McKneely entered the portal with a do not contact tag, which usually means the process is going through agents. The 6-foot-4 guard had interest from UNC before he committed to Virginia, but he never received an offer from the Tar Heels.
UNC has the chance to solve a big issue as McKneely could provide a valuable scoring punch for the lineup next season.
