UNC Recruiting: The Tar Heels offered 2027 five-star combo guard LJ Smith
Most major college basketball coaches put a premium on recruiting and capturing instate talent. Hubert Davis is no different, as he’s extended a scholarship offer to local talent LJ Smith.
Smith is a rising junior who currently plays for Lincolnton High school in Lincolnton, NC. The 6’5” guard has already drawn a lot of interest both locally and nationally. In addition to UNC’s offer, he also has been extended invitations to attend other North Carolina universities such as Wake Forest, Appalachian State and UNC-Charlotte. He’s visited Duke as well, attending a football game there. Nor is the interest in him just local — he already has 20+ offers in hand, including some from heavyweight college basketball schools such as Memphis and Kansas.
Smith is known primarily as a scorer, averaging 33.1 points a game in his sophomore season at Lincolnton High School. In addition, he averaged 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game. For his efforts, he was named the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Smith is listed as either a shooting guard or combo guard depending on what recruiting site you’re looking at, although shooting guard is probably where he ends up at. 247Sports has him currently ranked as the 27th best prospect overall in the 2027 class, and the second best combo guard in the class. This is Hubert Davis’s second class of ‘27 offer after he extended one to power forward CJ Rosser earlier this year.
