CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—University of North Carolina graduate student Jae’Lyn Withers is one of six Tar Heel student-athletes to win an ACC Top Six For Service award, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced this week.

Withers, a Charlotte native, created and maintained a mentorship program at a local middle school to help support minority eighth-grade boys as they prepare for the transition to high school.

He created different lesson plans and brought in different teammates to speak on different topics throughout the spring semester.

Withers averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 2024-25 for the Tar Heels, starting 23 games.

He was 39 for 80 from the floor (48.8 percent), including 25 for 52 from three-point range (48.1 percent), with 119 points (10.8) in Carolina’s last 11 games.

He scored 119 points in the last 11 games after totaling 64 points in the previous 18 games prior to the Feb. 15 game at Syracuse. For the season, he shot a team-high 44.2 percent from three (38 of 86), making the third-most threes on the team.
